Red Cross Responding To Recent Storm Damage

Updated Information Regarding Feeding Assistance

Sunday, June 4, 2017

The American Red Cross is on the ground providing food, relief supplies and other support to help people across Shelby County.

There is misinformation being distributed about feeding assistance from the Red Cross. The Red Cross is not providing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cards to current SNAP clients or non-SNAP clients. No SNAP cards or gift cards are being issued by the Red Cross for feeding assistance or replacement of food.

The State Department of Human Services (DHS) administers SNAP access. Any questions regarding SNAP should be directed to DHS.

Those needing assistance with food may also call 2-1-1 to obtain more information about local food pantries and other area agencies who may assist with feeding.

HOW YOU CAN HELP The Red Cross depends on the generous support of the American public to fulfill its crucial mission. Help people affected by disasters like floods, wildfires and countless other crises by making a donation to support Red Cross Disaster Relief. These gifts enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small. Please make a donation today by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 gift.
